Lifting the Lid

We're excited to let you know about a new resource we're launching for this upcoming period of lent.

Lifting the Lid - Six Bible Studies Exploring God's Heart for Mental Health is a free study resource to help churches explore the topics of emotional and mental wellbeing, using the Bible as a guide. The free course includes material on mental health conditions drawn from The Mental Health Access Pack, an online resource developed in partnership with Mind & Soul.

Building awareness together

The series has been created with small groups in mind, drawing on well-known Bible stories to open up discussions on a key topic each week. Comprised of 6 studies, each session offers concrete ways to support people in both church and the neighbourhood who might be experiencing mental- ill health.

Churches have a key role to play

With 1 in 4 people experiencing mental ill health in the UK across the year, churches have an important part to play in supporting and resourcing their communities effectively.  Mat Ray, of Livability, who created the studies says:

Emotional and mental ill health is an area which can present many challenges, but churches are in a great position to engage with these areas positively. We have good reasons to be hopeful and we have an important part to play in raising awareness.

Help churches change the culture

Whether you've engaged in our community training, partnered with us through The Happiness Course or Dementia-Inclusive Church, we would love your community to be part of 'Lifting the Lid' on mental health. Mental illness is no longer taboo in many churches, but we can do more to help communities become more aware of the issues and welcome those of us who experience them.

The course was met with a positive response when it was trialled last year. Here's what some of the participants had to say:

Being able to talk openly in a church setting about these issues has been really valuable.  It has been wonderful to ground the subject with a bible study.

I appreciated the practical ideas for including those suffering mental health problems. I would highly recommend others doing the course.
